Plan B Junior Club

Sorry for the long long delay in getting the site updated but it now appears that we have access.

For those of you who are not aware, Ann and myself ( Kev Potter ) have been running the Plan B Junior club from Rosliston Forestry centre since back in February. We started of with just 3 kids but we now have 16 kids registered with the junior club. We started this with the help of South Derbyshire county council who have now supplied us with orange t-shirts for each child. While i remember, the sessions run from 10 till 11 am every Sat morning and cost £1 per child. We are there every week unless we have an event to attend where we encourage the parents to bring the kids and allow them the opportunity to race in a friendly and competitive environment.

As a club we have now hosted 2 Go-Ride races. The 1st was hosted on home territory for all the Plan B Junior kids and was a great success. Below is our 1st report….

PLAN B GO – RIDE RACE                31/7/10

REPORT…..

We had great support for Plan Bs 1st Go- Ride race, with help from British Cycling in Dean Hughes & our very own Louise Day providing BCs marquee and South Derbyshire County Council’s John Widdowson providing a super PA system and running commentary for all our races. A big thank you also goes out to Gaz Lightfoot, Simon Dunsby for helping to set up our very technical course, Ann Staley, Tracy Potter for assistance in signing on and timekeeping.

Now onto the riders who helped make it all worthwhile. We had a total of 11 riders sign on for the event. This gave us 3 for the under 8s, 4 under 10s and 4 for the under 14s. The event started with a Time Trial of 1 lap starting with the youngest rider 1st through to the oldest. Results as follows…

1st Alex Taylor 1:11secs   (14)

2nd Kieron Horton 1:17          (12)

3rd Rhys Dunsby 1:20            (9)

4th Charlie Rycroft 1:24         (10)

5th Sam Jones 1:25                 (10)

6th Antonia Taylor 1:31          (11)

7th Regan Walton 1:37           (9)

8th Matthew Horton 1:38         (8)

9th Alana Taylor 1:42             (9)

10th Keisha Dunsby 2:02        (6)

11th Holly Jones 2:08             (6)

After the TT we had the 1st group race starting with the under 8s which was 2 laps of the circuit. Matthew got of to a great start and continued this throughout beating the 2 girls into 2nd and 3rd place

UNDER 8s

1st Matthew Horton

2nd Keisha Dunsby

3rd Holly Jones

The under 10s started of very closely with Rhys & Charlie battling it out to gain control on the 1st lap. These were racing for 4 laps and on the 2nd time up the hill Rhys made his move to leave his fellow competitors behind as they could only watch in awe as he rode away to a comfortable victory, made even sweeter by the fact that he was celebrating his birthday.

UNDER 10s

1st Rhys Dunsby

2nd Charlie Rycroft

3rd Regan Walton

4th Alana Taylor

The under 14s were to complete 6 laps and we saw some brave performances by all 4 riders. The favourite did not disappoint the on watching crowd as Alex Taylor; the winner of the TT by 6 seconds attacked from the start and almost lapped the field. Sam who was the youngest of the 4 rode very well to gain 2nd as Kieron suffered a few concerns with his gears and Antonia was getting to grips with her 1st ride on her new bike.

UNDER 14s

1st Alex Taylor

2nd Sam Jones

3rd Antonia Taylor

4th Kieron Horton

We then split the riders into 3 teams to enable us to have a relay race where each rider completed 1 lap before tagging the next rider. Teams were as followed..

Black Team…. Capt Alex Taylor

Antonia Taylor

Regan Walton

Red Team …. Capt Rhys Dunsby

Sam Jones

Alana Taylor

Kiesha Dunsby

Green Team…. Capt Kieron Horton

Charlie Rycroft

Matthew Horton

Holly Jones

The black team won this race with a great team performance. The captain Alex Taylor having to ride 2 laps to make up for 1 less rider. Reds coming in 2nd, closely followed by the Green team. Well done to all competitors.

All riders were supported strongly and received great encouragement from our commentator John Widdowson and family & friends. A big thank you must also go to Keisha Dunsby for baking cup cakes for all of the Plan B Junior cycling club mbrs to enjoy.
